Antique French Wooden Prayer Chair "Prie-Dieu" (French for Pray (to)God)) with Rush Seat
This beautiful turned wood chair has it's original rush seat and it still sturdy. Most likely late 1800s to early 1900s. The wood praying platform has been carved with the initials T.M.T or J.M.J. with a small cross. A prie–dieu (French: literally, “pray [to] God”, plural prie–dieux) is a type of prayer chair intended for private devotional use, but may also be found in churches. It is intended to be knelt on where one can place a book or his/her elbows for prayer.
