Mid Century Vanity / Dresser with Mirror  Made in Germany 1950's

This furniture was built by Georg Stein, a master craftsman in furniture making, as a project with his teenage son Manfred in Koblenz Germany during the late 1950s.  Georg Stein was born in Germany in 1891.  After he served in the German military in World War I, he became a master craftsman in 1928 (see last photo).  This furniture showcases his woodworking skills and his own unique design aesthetic.  The furniture is constructed of pieces that perfectly fit together with wood pegs.

Manfred was born in Koblenz in 1941.  In his teens his father attempted to teach him woodworking, but Manfred was more interest in being a tank mechanic.  In the end, Manfred completed an apprenticeship in business and emigrated to the United States in 1964 to work with his older brother Johann selling Porsche automobiles.  Manfred brought this furniture from Germany to the United States after his father’s death in 1967 because it reminded him of his happy youth and family.
